Who was the first British woman to climb Mount Everest?


Rebecca Stephens is a journalist who started climbing in 1989 after accompanying an expedition to Mount Everest.

In 1993 she joined an expedition and reached the summit of Everest becoming the first British woman to attain the 8848 metres.

She subsequently achieved other female mountaineering records and was awarded an MBE in 1994.
